After graduating from Cambridge University, Barnaby joined London based international practice Allies and Morrison architects working on several award winning cultural and educational projects. In 2002 Barnaby was appointed Architectural Adviser to the British Council. During this time Barnaby completed over 50 office and education projects across 4 continents, and the British Council was recognized as one of the top 50 clients and one of the "people who make architecture happen".

In 2006 the British Council Lagos, a collaboration with Allies and Morrison, was awarded the RIBA International Award.

Barnaby moved to Vietnam in 2007 to be Design Director of O2/Real Architecture and in 2011 established BHA Studio Limited. All BHA Studio projects are personally led by Barnaby Hewitt. The office only takes on a small number of projects at any one time to ensure that each is designed to an international quality.
